ALTA Wheelchair League players

By Mark LaRotonda, Special Programs Vice President

Warmer weather is upon us, and the ALTA Wheelchair program is in full swing. In April, we completed our spring competitive matches and are now ready for our May weekly clinics. These clinics will be held May 5, 12, 19, and 26 at Hudlow Tennis Center in Norcross and are great for any level player — from someone who would like to try wheelchair tennis for the first time, to someone looking to fine tune their skills.

A Level 4 tennis tournament is planned for May 16-17 at The Falls at Autry Mill in Johns Creek. Contact the Vice President of Special Programs for more information.

In June, we will begin our annual Run/Roll competition, which runs through July. Doubles teams consist of one chair player and one runner. The runner follows regular tennis rules, and the chair player uses wheelchair rules (two bounces allowed). These matches — always fun, competitive, and likely to have a bit of trash talking — are held every Tuesday evening at Hudlow Tennis Center. We would love to have you join us and see what it’s all about. We are always looking for runners to play! Runners do need to be paid ALTA members.

This year, we also will have several wheelchair pickleball events. Keep your eye out for emails with more details.

The ALTA Wheelchair Tennis and Run/Roll programs are open to ALTA members aged 12 and up. If you are interested in participating in either of these programs or would like more information on upcoming wheelchair tennis and pickleball mixers or tournaments, please reach out to our Vice President of Special Programs at specialprogramsvp@altatennis.org.
