Mixed Doubles: Sharon Moseley, Smoke Rise Country Club C1
Nominated by: Ross Phillips, Winding Vista
Members of the Winding Vista team would like to send a shout-out/sportsmanship nomination to the Smoke Rise C1 Mixed Doubles team. I was unable to be at that match due to a previous commitment, but several members of my team wanted to make sure I recognized their patience and hospitality for our match that Saturday.
There was miscommunication about the start time for line 4. I had it set at 10 a.m. and then found out that they had four courts available. I sent out a message to the team updating this information, but the line 4 players did not see this and arrived at 10 a.m. Smoke Rise was understanding and patient and could have taken the default, but did not, and chose to wait until our players arrived. They understood that it was just a mix-up and did the right thing. They were very gracious hosts — friendly, patient, and understanding.
Pickleball Co-Ed: Betty Schmal and Marian Edmonds, Martins Landing C7
Nominated by: Wendy Klarman, MJCCA
I was with a new partner, who really had not played before. These ladies were our opponents and they were so gracious and kind. They knew they were going to win, and they gave so many good shot and nice encouraging comments. It made the game fun and you never know how much a new player can improve!
Senior Men: Jennifer Weber, Laurel Park Tennis Center
Nominated by: Mike Clance, ALTA Senior Leagues Vice President
Jennifer was the staff member managing Laurel Park Tennis Center during the summer Senior Women’s and Senior Men’s City Finals. Jennifer was welcoming and helped the ALTA overalls and coordinators get everything set up for the City Finals matches. She was gracious during the rainout of the Senior Men’s finals and agreed to stay as long as needed on the rain makeup date. Overall, Jennifer made the ALTA Senior League experience at Laurel Park enjoyable and easy to manage.
