We have an outstanding 17-year-old pickleball player. Can we add her to our adult roster?
In some cases, yes. According to the ALTA General Pickleball Rules I. Teams and Players A. “Qualified Junior players currently ages 16-17 may be added to a AA roster at the discretion of the league vice president. If AA is not available, they may play in the highest level available.” (For complete explanation, see “Junior Player Eligibility Guidelines for Pickleball Play” located in the Pickleball section of the ALTA Documents.)

Can I catch a ball that’s clearly going out?
No. Catching or touching a live ball before it lands ends the rally and is a fault against the player who touched it. It’s better to let it bounce. Even if it was obviously headed out, catching it before it lands costs you the rally.

2026 USA Pickleball Official Rulebook, page 21: “9. A Stopping a Rally. Any action that stops play results in a dead ball. 9. A.1 Fault – Stopping a Rally. When a player stops a rally before the ball otherwise becomes dead, it is a fault against the player unless the stoppage is to call a hinder.”

Can I be removed from a roster after the roster correction deadline?
If you find an error or wish to make a change to any part of your roster (e.g., add or remove player, change facility, change team leader), you have up to five calendar days after the roster deadline to make corrections. Players cannot be removed after the roster correction deadline. Once the roster correction deadline has passed, refer to ALTA General Pickleball Rules, “I. Teams and Players F. 4. No player may be removed from a roster after the roster correction deadline unless it has been less than three calendar days since notification of the roster addition, and the player has not been listed on a scorecard. The player must contact ALTA customer service to be removed from the roster and notify the captain of the request.”
