Top-ranked Georgia Resort Unveils New Oceanfront Guest Cottages, Pool, and Pool House

Sea Island recently revealed the results of its two-year, $30-million enhancement program at The Lodge at Sea Island, including six new guest cottages, an 18-hole putting course, an oceanfront pool and pool house, an expanded driving range, teeing area, a new putting green, and short game area. Work on these additions began in December 2017 and debuted during the week of the RSM Classic, an official PGA Tour event held annually at Sea Island Golf Club.

“This is another very exciting time at Sea Island,” said Scott Steilen, president and CEO of Sea Island. “Rather than resting on our laurels of being consistently ranked among the top hotels in the country, we took these steps to transform the overall experience and expand the appeal of The Lodge.”

The cottages are decorated with wide-plank hardwood floors, beams, iron lighting, and fireplaces in the living spaces, and bedrooms are adorned with elegant furnishings and charming details such as paintings by local artists, custom-framed television cabinets, and white marble bathrooms. As with all other accommodations at The Lodge, guests in the cottages have personal butler service.

Designed by Love Golf Design, a golf course architecture firm founded by Sea Island’s own Davis Love III and his brother Mark, the resort provides a new dimension to the golf experience during the day and evening, perfect for both golfers and non-golfers alike. For a new take on a traditional course, the Love Golf Design team redesigned the Plantation course, which originally was created by British designer Walter Travis in 1928. The course reopened in October.

Additionally, an oceanfront, 18-hole putting course called The Speedway is now open. It provides a fun, all-day opportunity for individuals or groups to play. Then there’s the new, 17,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art Golf Performance Center, which features industry-leading technology, six instruction and club fitting bays, a putting studio designed by world-renowned putting instructor Phil Kenyon, a full-service golf club workshop, fitness center with locker rooms, spacious retail area, and indoor and outdoor meeting and event spaces.

To further enhance the guest experience off the course, Sea Island has added an oceanfront pool and pool house that embodies the look and feel of The Lodge, with double fireplaces, a wrap-around porch, food and beverage service, and indoor and outdoor event space. And then there’s the new Sea Strike & Pub, a six-lane bowling alley at the Sea Island Beach Club, offering bowling, beverages, and casual fare.

At The Inn at Sea Island, guests can now enjoy a Topgolf Swing Suite. On the main floor of The Inn, its two bays offer golf-oriented games, the option to play 84 virtual golf courses (including Seaside at Sea Island), Baseball Pitching, Hockey Shots, Quarterback Challenge, Zombie Dodgeball, and Carnival Games. Food and beverage service is available in the evening. Play is first come, first served, and it’s become a hit for private events and birthday parties.
