Several ALTA players collected more tournament wins in the USTA Atlanta Wheelchair Classic held at The Falls of Autry Mill in May. This tournament was open to all levels and featured 22 players, including 12 ALTA members.
Even though it was very hot in the afternoons, everyone had a good time. I was very impressed with the ALTA youth who were playing. They did very well!
Robert Popelka finished second in the A singles division and first in the A doubles division with Samir Jusupovic. Jordan Bates and Ricardo Castaneda grabbed first and second in the B singles division, while Caleb Yun and John Grimsley wrapped up the C singles division. Noah Fansler and Paul Sturtz took first and second in the D singles division.
In doubles play, Jennifer Speer paired up with Bates to win the B division, and Yun and Grimsley took second. Fansler and Sturtz finished first in the D division.
This Level 4 tournament was sponsored by the ALTA Foundation, USTA Atlanta, USTA Southern, and The Falls of Autry Mill.
The ALTA Run/Roll league is playing now on Tuesdays at Hudlow Tennis Center in Norcross. Skills clinics will be offered at Hudlow on August 4, 11, 18, and 25. All ALTA Wheelchair Tennis and Run/Roll programs are open to ALTA members ages 12 and up. Contact specialprogramsvp@altatennis.org for more information on league play or clinic participation.
