Philip Henning, a top player from South Africa, has signed with the University of Georgia men’s tennis team, head coach Manuel Diaz announced.

Henning is a part of South Africa’s Davis Cup team and is widely considered one of the top juniors in the world. He has a career-high ITF ranking of No. 35 and an ATP world ranking of 1608. He will join the team during the upcoming spring semester as an eligible freshman.

“We could not be more excited with the addition of Philip Henning to this year’s squad,” Diaz said. “Philip will have an immediate impact on our team and has such a bright future ahead of him. He is a high-character kid who works extremely hard and we are pleased he will be joining the Georgia tennis family.”

Henning won seven ITF junior titles in 2017 and three in 2018. He also has participated in several grand slam events such as the French Open and Australian Open. In 2017, he finished in the doubles quarterfinals of the Australian Open.

The Bloemfontein, South Africa native joins an already highly touted signing class that included Blake Croyder, Trent Bryde and Britton Johnston. In November, Georgia signed Tyler Zink. Zink is a blue-chip prospect according to tennisrecruting.net and has reached a career-high ITF ranking of No. 43.
